![]() I've only posted once on this board, but I've read posts as far back as last year. There are alot of knowledgeable and helpful Stang lovers on here.
I have a question regarding the price of a good paint job and bodywork. Car has a little rust on the lower corner of both doors and on the rear quarter of passenger side. I've been quoted from $795 - 3k. (795 was filler and one-stage paint and the 3k was new sheet metal and 3 base 3 clear coats.) I want to stay away from filler as much as possible. What is anyone experience and price if you don't mind sharing such info. Thanks ------------------ '66, 289 2v factory A/C and bench seat, C4 trans, Tahoe Turquoise. |

![]() I paid 2600.00 for my 65 Coupe. Door damage was fixed, pretty severe. The cost included all new rubber, doors, hood, trunk lid and the trunk was sprayed with that speckle paint. Also included were all new insignias. I did remove as much from the car myself, like bumpers, head lamp buckets and valances. The car came back assembled. Also sprayed underside of hood, and trunk lid, door jambs.
5 cost of Raven Black with 5 coats of clear. Pictures of coupe are at www.rfedd.bigstep.com if you want to take a look. Ron |

![]() The range of prices you were quoted are reasoonable for a daily driver paint job. The lower end will be with poor quality materials and will not hold up in the long run. I'm repainting my own car and the paints and related supplies are about $1000. This does not include the body work that I'm doing myself. So you can see the $700 job that includes "patching" the rust will not have quality materials. It is best to bite the bullet and have the rust removed and replaced with metal. $3000 to do a "good" job with metal patches is reasonable, but will probably not win best paint awards at shows. Check for rust on your floorboards and cowl area before commiting to a high end paint job.
Good luck. |

![]() Thank you, Ron1 and JohnZ.
I will be saving a little till I can afford a better paint job. will stay away from bondo! Still not sure if I want to show the car later on or not, guess I need to make that decision before laying down any cash for paint. P.S. Ron1 went to your link. Beautiful car. Hope to have a beauty like yours someday. ------------------ '66, 289 2v factory A/C and bench seat, C4 trans, Tahoe Turquoise. |

![]() I would try and do as much work as you can first like Ron did. Removing parts and making it simpler on the paint shop will drop the price. You could also start shopping for either a good used set of doors or at least some good door skins.
I also would look at the rest of the car and see if there is any more rust. On that rear quarter panel make sure that the drain holes are not clogged up to allow water to drain. ------------------ 69 351W Sportsroof deluxe |
