Question pushrod pushin'daisies

My Competition Cams hardened pushrod broke. The balls at both ends snapped. Anyone know why? It was about 5 degrees out when it happened. I haven't raced in a couple months. They aren't even a year old. I have hardened guide plates and stock cam. The pushrods are 5/16 stock length. Thanks for any feedback.
