I don't know why they can't build an IRS that will launch. If they can't they should just get rid of it. Seen Nissan 280z cars with small block V8's running nitrous with the stock rearends launching just fine.

It is Automobile magazine that did the test. Granted they are not a drag race oriented magazine, so another test may come out where they spend more time trying to get an optimal run. I don't think they mentioned what the weather was or anything.

they need to fire their test drivvers if that is all they could get out of it.
i'm sure the new cobra is capable of much better than that. what did they get out of the previous cobra?

LOL, probably the old standard rev to redline and dump the clutch approach. I remember an article in one of the magazines that was trying to do a 0-100-0 run in a 427 Cobra. The driver wound up blowing the car up (Carrol Shelby had him take it to 7000rpm), not that I think it would have blown at 7000, the dumbass probably power shifted at 7000rpm. Anyway, his receipe was dump the clutch. What a fricken moron.

Also, with all due respect to the new Mach 1, I eventually found the article, and the 12.97 run was on drag radials. Street tires were in the 13's. The auto car's performance was embarrassing. Why can't Ford build an auto tranny worth owning?

The new Car and Driver mag has the new Cobra Coup doing the 1/4 at 12.9 and 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Price as tested... $35,000 and change. I was looking at it today while the wife was shopping.....
