Who's out there with 4.10's?
I am ordering gears for my '95 GT/ 5-speed. My older Chevy's had 4.10 and 4.56 gears so I am aware of the rpm difference. However, this is my first 'stang. I was thinking about 3.73's, but after reading many of your posts, I have come to realize just how much help these 95 5.0's need to go fast. So, if anyone can share his or her personal experiences with the 3.73 vs. 4.10 debate, I would appreciate it. And yes, it is a daily driven car, but eventually, it will see heads, cam, etc.....

So this means your daily driver cant have heads and a cam?
AODE - go woth 4.10s. 5-speed, stick with 3.73;s, especially if you upgrade to a Tremec in the future, with the low first gear. ------------------ 1993 GT/AOD '93 Mustang GT |

HECK NO! my '71 Chevelle was running 11.90's and I drove that thing to work 3 or 4 times a week. I was just mentioning future mods as a reference point for gearing. Thanks for the input.

I would go no lower than 4.10 (numerically) maybe even 4.30, if people want to go fast then thats a good way, of course blower cars need to stay around 3.73, but n/a should run steep, my friend runs 150-175 shot with 4.10's and has just enough gear to hit the shift light at the top, i love seeing the shift light flash split second after these mustangs come off the line, gotta shift fast, but thats part of going fast.
Basically im saying people that only do minimal higway driving are wasting their time with stock or 3.55, just my opinion. |

So far, that's what I wanted to hear (LOL). But, how about a modded motor with heads, intake, cam, and the other usual bolt ons...still 4.10's?

I'd say go 3.73's. If you spend alot of time at the track/street racing, than by all means go with the 4.10's.
We do drive big fat dogs(SN95'S)and they are hard to get out of the hole, but the 3.73's just leave the door open for mods. You don't want to change them twice. You may put on the heads, intake, and cam and still feel you need power. If you go with a blower or big shot of gas, you'll want the 3.73's I like the extra MPH in 4th gear on the highway. I really couldn't deal with any steeper gears. When I punch it in 4th at 70+ it runs out of RPM's quick enough. (I make max power around 5400) I drive 100 miles a day and yes, the extra cost of gas starts to get to ya. While the car was at the shop today, I marked the driveshaft and tires with chalk. I turned the shaft and counted tire rotations per driveshaft turn. It came out to about 4 so I figure the car might already have 3.73's. To help me figure it out, those of you with 3.73's can help. What RPM are you at when cruising at 60 in 4th gear (5-speed guys)?
