Question 4,6 short block. need input on salvage cost

What Im looking to try and build is a good solid short block. Anyone have an idea on what a Cobra block without heads or any other items may go for. same with the iron 4.6 block and possibly a 5.4 block with crank. Im thinking of just building a very strong bottom end or even a stroked 4.6 motor. I would rather use aluminum cobra block.

I hope you don't plan to do this soon to a 00 car. I want to build my engine also and have been doing research and every approach is pricey. A built Cobra Short block I believe is about 4K+ and a 99-00 Windsor block is similar. I think the big price difference is because of the heads. I think what alot of people don't realize is that the DOHC in full dress weighs more than the SOHC block in full dress. Also the Iron block can handle as much power if not more than the aluminum block. In short, I would build the block you have with a Forged rotating assembly, ARP fasteners and you would be able to put as much boost through it as you want provided you have enough fuel. If you can get your hands on the Feb issue of 5.0 Mustang, they break down the differences between the 96-98 romeo blocks, 99-00 windsor blocks and cobra blocks and they say that the 99-00 windsor blocks are an excellent foundation to build on.
