I bought a new timing chain and it doesn't look like it is going to work. The cam that mounts on the front of the cam gear for the fuel pump doesnt sit evenly. I have a couple ideas but I don't know if any of them are a good idea. the fuel pump cam has these two circular peices the outer one is the reason that it doesn't fit. If I just mounted up the innner piece it would fit fine but that takes away the bearing affect. I was also thinking about grinding down one side of the cam gear. I would only have to take a little off to make it fit but I don't want to throw it off balance. I don't have the money to get an electric and a block off plate so i have to make this work somehow.

What timing set did you get? Another thing to watch for is the gear thickness. I had a fuel pump eccentric actually rub on the timing cover once. That was with a one piece eccentric though, it sounds like you have a 2 piece.

If I took the outer ring off it would fit fine. Is a one peice eccentric ok. The friction won't cause too much heat will it.

A one piece eccentric would spin with be mounted to the cam gear. It would rub the fuel pump lever every time around. Wouldn't that cause too much wear or heat?

I wish i could help out but i dont think i can much. I had the same problem when i put my car together. The fuel eccentric was actually rubbing on the timing cover and wouldnt pump any fuel. I was planning on getting the eccentric machined down but i ended up just getting a electric fuel pump and a block off plate. If you have a few $$ to spend its a good way to go. I got all the stuff i needed for just over 100$CDN. Just get something like a carter pump if you dont need anything big.

Dark Knight brought up a good point. If the tab that sticks in the cam gear is hitting on the dowel pin, you should switch to the shorter pin. Did your timing set come with different length pins? andy

I will take another look. The tab fits fine. It is the outer piece of the eccentric that rubs. Without the outer piece the eccentric fits fine. I don't plan on spinning it very high and the cam gear only spins half of what the crank does anyways. I think I will install it with just the one piece. After all I can always take it out and try grinding the cam gear if it causes too much heat. Thanks for all the help.
