392, 393, 408, 427??? who runs one?
I have been down and out for two years. I painted my car, built a new motor, blew it 3 weeks later. Well it is time to get rolling again. I want 500hp (+ - 25hp). I want to shift no higher than about 6000. I also want to run pump gas. I really think that this is possible. I plan to spend $10,000. I have not bought myself an automobile sence 92. So it is not unreasonable to spend the money. Kieth Kraft Racing has made me a quote so far. It was for $7,200 heads on down. My big questions are. Who is running a stroked winsor? How do you like it? How many miles do you have on it right now? Which ones don't last. ect....

Hey man, I'm running a stroked Windsor.. I love it!! It's in a full drag car so I haven't put that many miles on it. It's holding up really well. Good luck with your motor.

as I was reading your post, all I was thinking was two words "Glidden motor" then I saw RadicalGT had posted about his
Does Glidden supply any midler motors than the PRO-5.0 level monsters? If so, then i'd reccomend checking that route out. are you wanting this N/A 500hp at the wheels or at the motor? It wouldnt be extremely hard to get it at the motor, but it will take more thinking to get it to the wheels. Oh yah, is this one gonna be speed density too?

Yes Glidden does build much milder motors than Pro 5.0 calibers. He built Kurt Neighbor's Hot Street Motor. It's like a 4?? something cubic inch. I believe it's a tad bit small than mine. Billy builds AWESOME motors, but theirs one thing that comes to mind when billy builds one. $$$$$$$ I really truly honestly don't believe $10,000 will touch one of his motors. But then again call him and find out.

I have heard the 383 stroker is a better for a street/strip car. i have heard that once you get above 383 rod angle or something like that becomes a problem and the engine wont last as long. My dad is gonna be running a 383 with afr heads in his 66 fasstback whenever we get done with it. lol

I can't think of a stroker I'd like to have less than a 383. Just stupid. MOPAR has a 383, Chevy has a 383, now Ford has a 383? What a terrible idea.

I had in mind to go 3 90 3. "393" The guy said 420??? I think the 393 has the best rod angle.
fiveoh I think it will be a demon carb. My 302 had 365hp,and ran 12.17. With 500hp I will be right where I always wanted to be.

I know with a $500.00 junk yard motor (like the last 3) Ican go with a turbo, for the same money. I have always wanted a turbo. I am so undecided.

I'm building up a bullet proof motor right now and I'm not sure what the diffence in my street car will be because the only problem i've had with this set up has been exhaust and suspention. I have a 74 block scat crank worked truck rods forged 302 30 over pistons TRW 70 351 heads dremeled and Knuckles blead all over from home porting custom reversed exhaust. 351 truck intake modified upper into box. stock cam
but looking at Crane Cam 228/228 @ .050" .512/.512" lift. since im getting the power to the ground. probably because of the low compression and stock cam the push from the turbos has lead to longditivity. my block in the garage has a guirdle that i've been thinking of throwing on this engine and the canton pan and stuff since ive had no real problems (except they realized i need a sfi balancer) go with the strocker and the turbo best of both worlds

hi,
I'm building a serious 408 for street/strip and possible everyday usage. I've bought pretty much all top quality stuff and I expect it run that way. My 1st goal was to build a total driveable on pump gas stroker engine. My 2nd goal was for it to push my 1983 GT to 130+ 1/4mile trap speeds. I was told that in order to push it that fast I needed about 580-600HP at the flywheel. I've kept the engine to a 10.5 to 1 static compression ratio. Here's my parts list: 1974 351W Block, 408 Eagle steel crank,ESP H beam rods, JE pistons, Polished TFS"R" heads, (I knocked the casting off and blended the bowls) CAT main girdle and Fluid dampner, Crane 1.7 ratio Race Gold Roller Rockers, Lunati Solid Roller Cam (290/300) advertised duration- 604/629 lift, Edelbrock Super Victor Intake, Holley 850CFM DP Carb, Moroso oil pan(builtin windage tray) and Valve Covers. Hooker 2" Headers. Most buildups i've seen so far haven't done this type buildup yet so I'm kinda in the dark about some things. But I have spoken to enough people I believe I'll come very close to achieving my goals. Though I won't have the engine put on a dyno, I will dyno the car once its in place. Some of the other pieces I have already in the car are : Richmond 4+1 5 speed transmission, This is a real 5 speed with no overdrive, I'll be clicking all 5 gears through a LONG Vertigate shifter. (POSITIVELY NEVER TO MISS A GEAR) , and a Currie 9inch fitted with Mark Williams 35 axles and spool. I plan on running a 28X10.5 slick at the track and a similar sized E T Street tire for around town driving. I haven't driven the car in couple years now and was itching to get it "ROAD WORTHY" again. With only 38,000 miles on the odometer I'm anxoius to do some street driving again with it. Startup date is the 1st/2nd wk in July followed by a new paintjob within the week of getting it running. I'll keep you posted on how we're going. |

I am going to the track tonight. There is a mustang that runs 9.0s, I hope he is there. I want to know his engine set up.

I have a 393, professionally built by a very reputable local builder. I wanted the fastest and quickest street legal Mustang in town. My problem was that I am young (sometime stupid), and used a electric fan during the break-in period and I overheated the engine quite a few times before I found out that I needed to have the engine mounted fan and shroud for street use in heavy heat. The end result was too much endplay and copper in the oil filter (read: worn bearings) after the initial break-in and no trips to the drag strip. Almost a year later I am now dropping the engine back in after a complete rebuild (and a biger cam now that I got a sticker) and a trip to the tranny shop to make sure that the heat didn't do much damage there either. Hopefully things wil go right this time and I can get some much needed passes down the strip, and put more than 200 miles on the car.
