Default 5k to spend on motor

I'm getting a nice 5k check at the begging of next year. I want to get a whole new motor because mine is coming up to 120k miles and has seen better days. The mods I have are the ones i'm my sig.... i'm gonna need everything else. It's going in a daliy driver, i'd like it to get 80k-100k miles easy and like to get as much hp as I can for my money. What would you guys suggest? I dont know how to install a motor so it would probably have to be 4.5k in the motor so i have 500 left over for the install. I'd like to push as much hp to the wheels that I can and then spray a 100-150 shot on top of that when needed. What kind of setup would I need? Any and all suggestions appreciated.

I would go with your normal Heads/cam/intake mustang with 10.5:1 compression, a setup that peaks around 5500-5800rpm.

i am looking into, infact buying the gt 40 long block motor from downsford, it sells for 3095.00. I am going to install it with my dad and a few buddys. They claim that it has 345hp with ford induction i am not sure what intakes though, they dont state that but. the motor comes with a b303 cam or a e303 cam you get to choose. The motor really comes with everything but intake exaust throtle body. i am not sure if that helps but that is a sugestion

Well I am a fan of the TW heads. I wouldnt run a Vic JR intake, as it would kill your lowend.

I have a holley intake now, and I relly prefered the edelbrock for normal driving. Way more useable hp and torque in the lowend. My edelbrock w/ 1.6 rockers on a E-Cam peaked right around 5500. With GREAT power starting at 2500rpm.

Now my car peaks about 5800-5900, with power starting up near 3500+ rpms.

I would go w/ any one of the companies out there for a good shortblock w/ about 10.5:1 compression. TFS TW heads, Edelbrock RPM intake, a cam that peaks around 5800rpm (you'll have higher compression to help give you more lowend than me, and you have long tubes). You will need a TB/MAF, Injectors, rockers little things, and that should do it!

DSS short block: 1500
TFS heads: 1100
Holley intake: 550

that still leaves about 2K to this, that, and the other with.

With a strong heads/cam/intake combo, and nitrous... your stock AOD is going to be toast. Don't forget your misc. gaskets, injectors, etc.. etc...

Five point, RHO is a ford Remanufactured High Output All of the ford dealers sell them. They can sell this motor for 899.00 Don't let your local dealer LYE and try to tell you otherwise. The DSS is a kit for 1500, the shortblock is another 1000. Good stuff though.

well this is what i would do since you said daily driver. ported and polished/milled GT40's or "P" heads. 1.7's. stock cam or a "E" cam. cobra intake or explorer(save some dough). lentech AOD with a better stall, 190 pump, kirban adj regulator, 24lbs, 75 C&L, MSD, canton pan with scraper and a stock oil pump.

anyone correct me here if i am wrong
40 heads $850
P heads $530 plus headers $230
1.7's $175-$300
stock cam $0 "E" $170
Cobra Intake $400 Explorer(used) $100-$350
Lentech $2000 Terminator AOD
190 pump $100-120
Kirban $100
24lbs $225-$240
76 C&L $220-240
Canton $225
oil pump $40
hardened oil pump shaft $22.50

that brings it to $5200 on the high side of parts.

most of you guys would say get a short block, but if he goes this way, he would have the parts for a better motor down the road and he would have a tranny to handle it.

MILD NOT WILD for a daily driver. trust me you wont like a 11 sec daily driver, but you would like it as a weekend warrior car!

guys this is what i do so i set myself up later down the road for more improvements. is it good? let me know, i dont want to steer him in the wrong direction.

I was actually trying to save for gt40p heads and a cobra intake with ecam until I found out I was getting a 5k check in jan. Oh and supposedly my longtubes would work with p heads. A lentech would be nice but my motor has 120k on it and has seen better days and I don't know how long it would hold up with the added power of h/c/i combo. I was thinking of a dss pro bullet 306(want to run 11's eventually and supposedly they can support that kind of power) for 2k. Haven't decided on what kind of h/i/c to run on it though. Leaning towards AFR or TFS, edelbrock intake and not sure on the intake. How hard would it be for me to put together this motor? I've installed struts/shocks, radiator, pulleys, alternator. I have a friend that's very mechanically inclined that's done carbed motors before but never efi and he says he's scared too because of all the wires and stuff...... Thanks for all the help/suggestions guys keep it coming...

well a motor swap is a bit more intense than struts and pulley's but if your buddy comes over the two of you could probably pull it off
efi is nothing to be scared of

and if you run into problems there is always the board here to get some help
