Blowers
Definately going to supercharge, but I'm having a hard time chosing between Vortech and Procharger. I could get the SQ-Trim Vortech for about 4000 installed, however that is without the aftercooler. The Procharger will run me atleast 4500 bucks, though that does include the intercooler. Wondering if intrcooling really is superior to aftercooling. Also I just really want something that is very reliable; I'm in a wheelchair and have a hard time performing matinance on it. I would like to here everybody's opinion!!! Thanks

1 vote for an intercooled S/C set-up. Procharger!
As for maintenance, the centri type S/Cs get a bad rap when folks get beyond the stock kit and don't set the engine up for the demand. I personally would reccommend a roots type supercharger. Question would be what kind of performance do you expect from your set-up. |

Recommendations
Take a look at this website, it gives an excellent overview of the different types and brands of Superchargers http://www.motorsportsdigest.com/tech.htm I have a Vortech and have been very happy with it to date. The Vortech does not require an intercooler and it seems that the roots type require this to make decent power. Smoke is definitely correct in saying that a custom tune is required for a centrifugal type of sc, I don't know if this is the case or not with a roots type. I am a case in point. My Vortech out of the box installed cost me $4000 and I just dyno'ed at 313 rwhp and 370 rwtq. I'm going in for a custom tune and I'm being gauranteed a minimum of 385 rwhp after the tune (that's about 450 hp at the motor) and that's without an intercooler. My recommendation is to ONLY have the SC installed at a shop which has a floor dyno and will install the Vortech with a Diablo chip and a custom tune(I'm having my Superchip replaced with a Diablo tomorrow). Good luck and let us know what you do.

Go with the Procharger. It comes with an intercooler while the Vortech dose'nt. Also with the Procharger you don't have to drill into the oil pan whereas the Vortech you do. Heres Prochargers' web-site http://www.procharger.com/index.html
Good Luck

I've had great luck with my Vortech and that's all I can say. Tech support has been more then helpful and the unit itself is second to none.

If I was doing a blower that was very safe and required minimal maint. I would agree with Smoke and also seriously consider the roots style blowers.

Vortech comes with an aftcl. I am presently pumping 14 lbs boost on 8.2 CP pistons 98 cobra convt. last dyno after 3500 mile breakin on new motor...523 rwhp 422 rwtq.( more torque on the sohc motors with the same set up) DO NOT TRY AND RUN YOU BLOWN MOTOR WITH A MAIL ORDER CHIP...HAVE IT CUT ON A DYNO BY ONE WHO KNOWS.
apenn..do not want dash your hopes of 385 rwhp from a beginning of 313,, but this is highly unlikely , unless you motor is way off on fuel air and timing 35 to 40 hp is more realistic. Good luck ..hope you get your 385 and more...it becomes a beast of a differen't color on a properly tuned blown modular motor..

385 HP?
Hi Chico - I appreciate your input on the 385 hp. When I had the car dyno'd I was told the air/fuel was way off. I had a Lightning MAS and Anderson PowerPipe installed along with the Diablo Chip. The chip was not direct from Diablo but came with a custom program the shop had used on numerous other cars. Anyways that next day I actually took it to the track. Tell me what you think. Prior to these upgrades I was running consistent 13.0's at 107 mph, with the changes I was running 12.6's at 111 mph. What would you think this equates to? An extra 4 mph is how much hp? I am going to get the custom tune done as soon as I have the time. Anyways, your input is appreciated. Thanks.

DON'T WAIT TOO LONG ON THE TUNED CHIP...I HAVE BLOWN 2 MOTORS ON MAIL ORDER CHIPS DUE TO DETONATION AND NOT TUNED PROPERLY....THERE IS SILENT DETONATION ESPECIALLY UNDER BOOST....YOU WILL ALSO NEED LARGER INJECTORS,FUEL PUMP OR PUMP'S DEPENDING ON YOUR BOOST?

Most kits supply all the fuel upgrades: new pump, new injectors...they also supply a chip, but it's not the best...

Blown Motor?
Chico - This might be a stupid question but how can you tell if you have a blown motor? Is it something way drastic like the car doesn't start, plumes of black smoke coming out of the exhaust, flames shooting out of the hood or is it be something more suttle? The reason I ask is that I just found out that my engine is pushing oil back into my supercharger via the air return from the top of the motor back to the Supercharger. Is this symmtomatic of something very bad? Vortech told me to basically install a mini air filter for this return. Also, I have 30 lb fuel injectors and I'm told my bost is up to 11.5 lbs. I'll make it a priority to get that custom tune asap. Thanks.

Yes sometimes suttle... may just be ring gland on one piston..no. 7 and no. 8 a are the most likely..pull breather cap on valve cover with motor running....look for blow byeeee...usually a loss of compression and HP. GOOD LUCK!

BLOWERS ps
tHE ANDERSON PWR. PIPE AND 90MM LIGHTING MASS AIR METER IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR ABOUT 30 MORE HP. THIS MOD. ALONE REQUIRES A NEW TUNED CHIP
