Default 175 shot???

i've heard of mostly stock stangers (like myself) spraying up to a 175 shot to get their 13 sec car into the 11's.

is this an extremely bad idea or no?

i'd say if i can get a bigger fuel pump in my car i'd do it, or am i an insane, juice-headed moron?

As long as your bottom end is'nt too ragged 175 will be fine(provided that you have a block from 87-92...93 they went to hyperslug pistons). To spray 175 shot you'll need minimum 225 lph in the tank if not even a booster pump inline with that. There is always risk involved with this....I'm not going to go into details B/C you probably know them all. If I'm not mistaken MM&FF did a test to see how much they could put on a stock setup....you might check one of your back issues or email them to find out which issue it is.....If you find out what issue e-mail me and Ill see if I can get you a photocopy. The absolute best way to find out is to take your car to your local dyno with your kit ready to go and let them make the first spray pass on the dyno hooked to a wide band O2 meter so that things dont get out of hand. I have Nitrous Works kit with 190 in tank and I went way lean on a 150 shot on the dyno so I'm currently upgrading my fuel system before I spray 175. A single dyno session on my local dyno is 75$. Ive been talking wet nos kits so that makes a difference in what Ive been talking about. Dont take this message to heart as this is only my opinion and I'm certently no expert. good luck!

yeah, stock block.....but stock crank, rods, pistons and rings? not to mention heads, valves, and everything else short of the intake?

FYI....it's a 91 so the pistons are forged, and i called compucar about it today for the jetting combo. i think im just gonna spray 125 or 150 at most.

I did the same. Pretty much a stock block. Main girdle and that was about it. But after about 12-14 months it finally said "goodbye" in a big way. Racing Saturdays and Sundays, 8-12 passes per day. Sometimes major events...
I will guarantee you those blocks will not last and when they finally go, they will not find too many pieces. Unless you can afford to lose a motor from time to time, its better to be a bit conservative.

I wouldn't go past 150hp, until you really get a handle on the tune... I got just over 60 passes on the stock block before it split down the middle, using an NX EFI Race kit (single nozzle before t.b.) jetted @ 200hp. Some of the stock blocks last longer, while others (most) only last a few passes at that level.

I'd say that 175 is the most you'd wanna spray on the stock bottom end... and that's really pushing the limits.

Nobody is saying it can't be done, at least I'm not. I think the point we are trying to make is that he won't do it for very long. The amount of stress it puts on the block (and all the other parts)will catch up with you.
I learned that no matter how you build the car, always try to design it for twice the amount of stress you plan to exert on it. That why guys run big blocks. No stress on the motor, lasts longer, less maintenance.

Oh, and the ideal nitrous jet size is 2 sizes below the one that put the hole in your piston.
