![]() hey, been out of the 5.0 thing for quite some time, not back in it quite yet(ill get another when i stop spending cash on this truck), but i need some help with building a 302.
what im looking to build is a low rpm torquer motor for my truck(its a 1984 ford bronco 2, 4x4, 1/2 ton axles(high pinion dana 44 and an 8.8 out of a f150), detroit locker, 5.13 gears, about 6" of lift(rock crawler springs.....) on 36" military tires. it has a 2.8l in it, which works, but i need more power. i was wondering if a stock 5.0l(87-93) out of a mustang with a edelbrock performer 289 intake and about a 650 off road carb(holley truck avenger) would make a lot of low end power, but still pull decent up top? or would i be better going with a truck motor, and put that carb and intake on it, or even building a motor(need suggestions of parts to use on it, not even sure if the performer 289 would be best, im really rusty on the 302 thing) thanks a lot

![]() I think a 87-93 mustang motor would be ideal for what you need. Just put a low rpm range intake manifold and an off road carb and the 300ft lbs of torque the 5.0 produces would perform very nicely in your truck IMO.

![]() Have you ever considered a 4.9L 300 ci straight 6. Excellent torque and power with the lighter weight. And you can beat the piss out of them, especially great for mudding purposes!

![]() ive put 302's through hell, i know they will stand up, but the I6 i believe will be too long to fit in the engine compartment, i believe the 5.0 is an easier swap. plus, i cant live with out that v8 sound

![]() As Jester said, go with the torker II manifold, you won't be sorry. A 600-650 carb is fine. Just make sure you get the right cam! Without the right cam, the power ain't all there. If you're really in for some torque, build a 331. Just my .02.

![]() Hey Kris, how you been? Good call on keeping it fuel injected, you won't have to worry about flooding it on big inclines. It'll give you what you want.
