How old is the 3.8
How old is this 3.8 V6? Does anyone know the original car that had it? I know my old 89' Licoln Continental has it(as did the T-Bird). I'm assuming it's the same 3.8 engine. Anyone know the lineage?

The first time that a 3.8L V6 was in a Mustang was in 1983. I am pretty sure that you could get it in any of the body styles, except the GT. For that year and 1984 it was a V6 2 BBL VIN#3. Then in 1985, it was changed to a V6 EEC TBI, VIN#3. It stayed like that in 1986, but from 1987 till 1993, Ford did not offer a 3.8L in a Mustang. In 1994, Ford brought it back with a V6 EFI, VIN#4. I am pretty sure that it has been like that ever since. However, the first time the Ford offered a 3.8L was in 1982. It was available in the F100, F150, F250, F350, Granada, and in the Thunderbird. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure on this.
P.S. CarParts.com is a good place to find this kind of information. You can search year by year for each manufacturer to see bodystyles and engine availibility. |
