245/45/17 on all corners?

I know I may get some rubbing with these, but I would like to go 245/45/17 on all corners on my 1990 (i.e. before the larger wheel wells were introduced) Stang. Do you think the front rub will be excessive, or just during hard cornering or full lock turning? They will be mounted on 17 x 9 wheels, with an 18 mm offset to allow for a little more room up front.

17x9's have the clearence issues. but i dont think the 17x8's do.

Yea, I know they do but I was told that the additional 18 mm offset on the wheels I ordered takes car of that. I hope they are right.....

245's look better on 17x8's anyway...If you insist on the 17x9's go with a 255/40 all the way around. That is my recommendation.

I have 93 Cobra rims on my car and while they are not 17x9, I still have a little rub up front. It's only when the wheel is turned all the way. And in the back, I had to flip my quad shocks to fit the tires. I run 245/45/17 Nitto's all the way around.

I have 17x8-1/2 ROH ZR-6 w/ 245-45/ZR-17 on all 4's. It only rubs when I go in reverse on the left front at full lock. Car is also lowered w/ FMS "C" springs/Koni's.

Mmmm, it seems like it is different for every car. I am not sure what to do. If they just rub when turning very sharply, that may not be too bad. Guess I may do a little more research. Keep the replies coming!

i agree with joe50 245's are not wide enough for 9 inch rims 245's are good for 8 inch

I have 245/45/17s on a 9" rim, and they look good. They may look better on 17x8" but I don't know. I also have 275/40/17s on back, and the 245s look better as far as the tire to wheel width. The 245s do rub on full turns, but it's easy to not make them rub. (don't turn all the way!!!)

I have a 1990 with ROH Snyper 17x8" rims with 245/45/17's and have never had a rubbing problem. My car is not lowered but I have had them on for about 2 years with no problem. I have had 2 different brands Eagle F1's and Les Schwab Toyo's no problem on either. Have fun it will change the whole look of your car. The rims have factory offset, just so you know.

I thought a 255/40/17 may be better, but I am still worried about the front rubbing. This is the size that AFS wheels ships out in its packages for the 90 Mustang, although they say they have a little better luck with the 8" wheel. The 9" wheels are already being shipped to me, but the additional offset is supposed to help with the rubbing. I can live with a little rubbing though.

So, from what I gather on MW, the 255/40 should be fine....assuming my wheels don't totally screw things up. So, do you all agree I should get the 255/40's?

I have a '90 Coupe lowered 1.75" with H&R road race springs and i run 17x9 cobras with 245/40/17 up front and 275/40/17out back. The only time i get any rub is if i hit a sharp turn extremely fast SUDDENLY to were it rolls the car on the suspension rather than easing into the corners. Lock to lock it does rub a little(inner wheel lip to a arm) like previously stated but you get used to learning how far you can take it. My 245s look awesome on the 9" up front.

I was just wondering if you had the Quad Shocks on the back or if you had to remove them to accomidate the 275's out back. I bet it looks sweet though. Thanks for the info.

I have the 275/40/17s out back, and my quad shocks are still there. I have no problem rubbing out back!

At the time i did the suspension mods i got mixed reviews on the quad shock deal so i bought a set of strong LCA's and tokico shocks. by the way i just looked and i am running 255/40/17 on the front-DUH, anyway i'll try to post updated pics with the new paint job. good luck

Well, I think I will go with the 245/45/17 tires. I want them to all be the same size and have had a few places say I shouldn't have a rubbing problem. I know I am taking a chance and normally trust opinions on here, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on this. Some people on here are fine with the 245's while others have problems.

I guess I will just take my chances. I don't really mind a little rubbing, so hopefully these will work out, especially witht the extra offest on my wheels.
