he is getting it dyno tuned and getting a custom chip at alternative auto. he swears that the fmu is the way to go, i have heard nothing but horror stories about the fmu. i keep telling him to ditch the fmu, but he keeps saying that everyone he talks to says to keep it. am i wrong for thinking that the fmu is garbage? if not, try to convince him to ditch the fmu. (i will e mail him a link to this page) thanks btw: this isnt a modular question.....its about a fmu in general (so dont move it) |

you are absolutely right about ditching the thing. Especially with a chip and 42lb injectors.

What size injectors are stock on the DOHC4.6 anyway? A good dyno tuned chip with the 42lb injectors will be plenty for that car. How much boost is he planning on running?

The main purpose behind the FMU is to allow undersized injectors to function at an acceptable level under boost conditions.

With the proper injector size and a custom chip, I've been told to ditch the FMU by LaRocca's. I've discussed my combo with them on a couple of occasions and this is what they are telling me too. E

Also, have him ask the guys at Alternative - isn't that Liddo Icabelli's (sp?) shop? He should definitely know. It would be interesting to hear what he says on this too.

he says he already asked (lidio), but i told him that if he buys the right injectors and has a good dyno tune he will not need the fmu and it will do nothing but cause him more problems if he runs it.

basically what he thinks is: running the fmu is better than getting the right sized injectors for his combo. (i think 42's might be enough, its not like the thing is going to run 9's) |

A good friend of mine made 500rwhp and went low 10s with an S-trimmed 302 with NO FMU and only 36lb injectors.

In other words, the 42's are plenty
