I think the 4.6 is due to the overhead cam/heads setup (wider)

The 4.6 is physically way larger than the 5.0. The 4.6 is wider than a big block.

The 4.6L Modular is pretty darn close in size to the big block 429/460 engines. I'm not sure about weight tho.

Big block is going to weigh in at about 650 lbs. depending on what intake you are running. And the 4.6 is 4 inches wider than a 460 with stock valve covers.
