Rear wheel bearings? I know these have been a problem on the 99/00 GTs. There is a loud, strange rub/vibration in the rear end when I'm going backwards. Should I be worried that my bearings are shot? The car has over 20k miles now. ------------------ ************************ 1999 GT - Laser Red K&N, Steeda pulleys, & Steeda strut tower brace (Upcoming mods: subframes (bought), Bassani X, & FMS 3.73s

The problem associated with the rear ends for our cars is the carrier bearings being bad. They get pitted real easy. I never noticed any noise but when I had the gears changed out they were obviously scored and needed to be changed out. ------------------ 00 GT, K&N, MAC Tree Killer, Pullies, 4.10’s, 2 chamber Flowmasters, UPR shifter, Weld Pro Stars, Nitto DR’s 13.21@100.90 (1.87 60ft) M/M 100 88 LX coupe X-FHP, 12pt Cage, UPR K-member, 31 spline rear, full spool, more to come

Thanks. I'll have the dealer look at them when I get the car in for the emergency brake recall. At least it gets on the record. The rub/vibration wasn't there this morning. I hope it's not one of these mysterious things that can't be reproduced when the dealer has it. ------------------ ************************ 1999 GT - Laser Red K&N, Steeda pulleys, & Steeda strut tower brace (Upcoming mods: subframes (bought), Bassani X, & FMS 3.73s

Mine became noticeably noisy after about 15K. Didn't notice the noise in reverse but it sure was there while going forward and noticeable at all speeds. It had a rubbing or grinding-like sound. ------------------ Rick _________________________ '99 GT with K&N filter (Don't know what else I want to do with it - yet.)

I had the same problem. My carrier bearings were shot and made a heck of a noise. I had them changed when my gears were installed.

Just got mine out of the shop last Tuesday. I have been hearing the noise for a long time. Of Course the dealer "Can't reprodude customers complaint." So when I take it back for the recall I will gladly take the Service manager for a ride. ------------------ My Burnout ;-) X-pipe 3.73 gears 2 chamber Flows cold air induction

I too hear these grinding rubbing noises especially at slow speed, forward, especially when turning into driveways, or just coming down the hill in apt complex, all related? ------------------

Maybe... I have my old barings sitting right here in front of me. After 10K the wear is visible, but near to the point of being severe. I would guess that they are good to at least 50K. Ford should of done better, but at least it isn't too much of a pain to swap out, especially if you are changing gears. Darn TIMKEN... ------------------ AIM: Some97Snake

If it had not been for the roar in the rear of my car, I would not have my 3.73s today. After I found out what the problem was I decided to go ahead with the gears while they had the chunk out. I hope the new ones last longer. The car had 36,000 miles when I changed them. It now has 40,000. ------------------ '97 Cobra, MAC Cold Air Kit, 3.73s, Rio Red

King Snake, did you have the dealer do the work? If so, how much did they stick you up for? Thanks. ------------------ ************************ 1999 GT - Laser Red K&N, Steeda pulleys, & Steeda strut tower brace (Upcoming mods: subframes (bought), Bassani X, & FMS 3.73s
