				 | exhaust crackling, popping noises When I put my flowmasters on I started getting that backfire noise when I rev it up high and let off the gas. I know that it is supposed to do that and I think it sounds cool. Does anyone know why this happens. The reason I asked is because I traded my holley for an edelbrock performer and I lost that sound. I miss the sound so much that i think I might switch back to the holley. Before i go out and buy anything does some one know why it makes this sound.

				 | Yeah I'm stuck with 2 chambers too, and mine pop to a certain extent, but then developed into a full blown backfire when I was running WAY rich...I would think as long as it isn't something along those lines, then its just the Slowmaster character...however, I don't know why you would lose that by swapping..I know only about EFI anyways so I'll just STFU |

				 | guess If I had to take a guess, I would say that it is because when i switched carbs I went from vacuum secondaries to mechanical secondaries. But I could be wrong

				 | I have always wanted one of those superbikes. I have never ridden one but they look like so much fun. I'd get one but my wife won't let me. She said i can make the stang run 11's though. I guess that will have to do.

				 | Really??? That's awful My fiancee is actually the one that taught ME how to ride (he rides a 929) I have a feeling I'll never buy a fuel injected bike myself because I tend to be twitchy, and I'd be scared I'd flick my wrist too much and loop that liter bike like THAT...I've watched Matt while riding pillion, and his wrist NEVER moves..not visibly at least Hey can't complain about the 11 second rule! Most wives just plain hate the pony no matter what she runs |

				 | Closing the throttle temporarily creates a rich condition in the pipes, and you get little mini-backfires. Vettes do it, Camaros do it, my 'Stang does it, my dad's does it, his '67 did it, my buddy's Monte Carlo does it...etc, etc.

				 | That makes sense, thanks. Why do you think it would stop doing that when I switched from my holley carb to my edelbrock. I guess you could say that that rich condition doesn't exist anymore. Do you think i should try richening up the mix a little?

				 | It is probably the mechanical secondaries. I'm not an expert but I do know a little. I always like the Holely better anyway though. I assume you tuned the cab when you put it on. If its new you still ahve to tune it a little. I dont care what they say about " Just put it on and go." Bull Malarky. you gotta fine tune it a little. Brad

				 | If, when you release the throttle after revving it, you get popping in the exhaust, it is because the idle mixture is too lean, not rich. The idle mixture on your vacuum secondary carb must have been leaner. Need proof? Lean out the mixture on your double pumper and rev it. Take care, -Chris
