hey guys...im new on this forum and was wondering which stang would be the best one to buy for street racing...im looking to get low 11 sec to low 12 sec 1/4 mile times. I used to be all about imports, but everyone i talk to says that when they really want to race, they pull out their stang. Any help of advantages and disadvantages, adding turbo(if possible etc...)? Im thinking a nice 80s 5.0...any input??

if your looking for a car to modify i would go with the fox body, i would say a 92lx 5spd. they are lighter than the sn95's. and 92 is the best year for the computer. i would definitely go with the 5spd, unless you plan on putting a built auto in it.

I would get any 89 and up fox body. If you plan on doing a lot of mods that way you all ready a mass air car and dont have to do the mass air conv.

Yes, a turbo is possible. You'll want a mass air car, so look for a 88'-93', anything earlier and you'll either have to covert it to mass air or a carb setup before you can make any major modifications to it and still keep it streetable.

Turbo Technology, Pro Turbo, Cartech, and a couple other companies all make turbo kits. All you have to decide is how much you want to spend, twins or a single setup, and how fast you want to go.

'89-'92 would be my pick. Great power to weight ratio......pretty quick stock w/ endless possibilities for speed! Good luck.

the decision should also be based on your technical knowledge and mechanical ability.

EFI cars are going to take alot more technical knowledge than a carb'd car... and EFI also have more things to trouble shoot if something is'nt working correctly.. sorry if i sound pro-carbed, cuz i am.. ![]() good luck
