Default So what can you rev it to?

I was just curious, I hear about people revving the engines to 7000 rpm or more on a daily basis and still not blowing the engine. Now i rev mine to about 5500 hundred when at the track before shifting, I was wondering what an actual safe redline is for a stock motor. Thanks guys.

Don't go near 6000. The stock rev limiter is 6250, and although it is there to prevent destroying the motor, hitting it at the track all the time is not good. I know a guy who launches off the rev limiter. The car has a Cobra Intake, Gt-40P heads, exhaust, suspension and other bolt-ons, and although he runs 12.3s at 109, I bet the car doesn't last very long! Try moving the shift points around to see what your car likes the best! Start low and work up!

Just letting you know the factory tach is wrong. When I first got my Mustang in 96 I used to run it out until the tach hit 6500 and even bounced it off 7000 a couple times the rev limit never kicked in. When you can you should get an aftermarket tach. I would keep your shift point where it is. If you have the factory camshaft, peak power is something like 5200 and you should shift a little above that, like you do at 5500 that way you keep the engine in the power band. Have fun with the nitrous.
