Oh gee and here I was thinking that the Mustangs made after the 5.0 were it's successors.

Calling a civic a hot rod just doesn't make sense. When i think hot rod i think something rediculously light with insane amounts of torque and sounds GOOD....not like crap....GOOD!!!!
Oh....and to all those people thinking that this whole souping econo car thing up is a new thing, what do you think the whole domestic turbo thing was in the 80's (Dodge Daytona, Thunderbird T-coupe, Mustang SVO, etc. etc.). Although there were a few turbo imports in the 80's and some technology/powertrains got absorbed onto domestic cars, there are more 80's domestic turbo cars on the road than there were ever import turbo cars. These were LONG before anyone was feebly throwing money at slow japanese imports. Also People were tinkering with VW's in the 60's, putting on multiple carbs, putting in Porsche engines, etc. etc.
As for being on the cutting edge of technology....weren't japanese cars some of the last cars to have carburetion with miles and miles of vacuum lines.
Also just about every car now is overhead cam, low friction designed, CNC machined, and very tight toleranced and domestic V8's are getting faster and faster for the displacement.....what does this mean for import "enthusiasts", you can only pump so much air through a 1.6L without serious work.....It's much easier to pump more air through a 4.6L V8 for example.
The whole Sport Compact thing has been around for quite awhile and the only thing the new honda civics replace is old honda civics.
This of course, is just one man's biased opinion

Oh, so the car is supercharged too. And it ran a 14.7? Wow, I'm impressed.

The only half decent comparision I've ever seen was between the Civic and the Shoebox Chevy (55-57). Both cars were cheap and plentiful. That was as far as the comparision went, and for a time all the kids were rodding up the Bel Air's and 210's, etc.

I wish I could remember where I saw that statement, because it was years ago and I doubt they think like that anymore. At the time it kind of made sense, before the whole all show no go ricer thing took off.

James, that song was awesome.

I dislike that the media is trying to capitalize on the spoiled little ricer kids to try and keep hot rodding funded. Anybody seen hi-rev tv or whatever it is on Speed? Come on, any show about how Midas will put dual tips on a civic does not belong on the speed network. But those are the people who blow all their money.

Someday I will sit back with a cold one and read the whole article. Sounds like it will be pretty entertaining.

So I read the entire article, and only have one request of popular mechnics. Explain this to me:

Quote:
No respectable street rod would be complete without hood louvers and true dual exhaust with chrome tips.
and?
Quote:
To further help the engine breathe we drove over to DC Sports in Corona, Calif., and had the guys there bolt on a 2.25-in.-dia. four-into-one header
How can you run a 4-2-1 header and true dual exhaust? Maybe the popular mechanics guys spent too much time with the garage door down painting models.

They also say Dean Moon would be proud of this car. There are some misstatements I'll let slide, but not that one.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
This makes me think of another thread here that i just read:
Kevin Price:I pull up in my car and do my burnout. No kidding, these guys backed away from the fence like they were scared or something. Have they never seen (or heard) a real race car?

(sums it up nicely)

Ye Flipping Gods, will the blasphemy never stop?

SRV1, the song was too funny, now I have to go and listen to my copy of the Brian Setzer version of the real song

That article just reminds me of the old quote, "you cant polish a turd"
