The (Fox) Mustang GT model was a factory-installed appearence package and offered the exact same engine and suspension package as the LX, with the same performance. I don't recall the specific weight difference but I seriously doubt that the turbine wheels, 'cheese grater' tailights and urethane body parts on the GT Mustang models totaled 300 pounds. More like 100 or so - if that - and on a 3,000 pound vehicle, that minor weight difference is inconsequential.

That noted; I agree that the LX is the better looking 'Stang. I should know, I owned one for 15 years. I suggest that you go for it.

There isn't really a "bodykit" on an LX. Its just a different front and rear bumper without the sideskirts. It also has a different spoiler (on the hatchback)

There is no way that crap is 300lbs. If you want to make your car lighter, start looking into other areas. Tubular k-member/a-arms, AC delete, sound deadener under the carper, fiberglass hood, aluminum heads, stuff like that.

I think there was around a 300# difference between the GT and lx notchback(pre-1994).

Yes, I agree that the body kit did not weight 300#, but I believe it was some extras that were included. Some things like fog lights, or maybe premium stereos (amps?), or possibly some other console or seats or glove box lights... Some misc doohikies that might add up to 300#.

My LX Notchback weighed 3100 lb. when I last checked. I'm willing to bet it's lost around 10 pounds to rust because of the winters here in Michigan and the salt.

I remember hearing something like that when they were still building them. I think most of it was hype, 300 lbs is a lot for just bumpers and side skirts. I liked the LX better too, much cleaner looking. I never cared for the "cheesegrater" taillight covers as Mr 5.0 called them. I remember everyone saying don't get a GT, get an LX, they have the same performance but loads lighter.
