Ok, The egr system is designed to mix ehxaust gas from the motor into the air coming into the motor.

Is this done to cut down on emissions? I would think that exhaust gas coming into the motor would reduce the HP produced by the motor. What triggers the valve to open and let exhaust gas into the incoming air(when is it open)? Is the valve open at WOT? Thanks
