Default New 68 Stang owner needs help badly

Hey guys. I am a new Mustang owner and I am having issues. I bought a 68 w a stock 289 and a carter 600cfm on it. It needs alot of work. I am having issues with it idling. Right now it starts up immediatly but it stays at like 1100 rpms. it dosnt kick down. at all. The electric choke is not connected to a power. where would you suggest to hook it up at?

even so, it still rough idles and is loud. I tried to time it but the needle from the hb is gone. I bought a new timing pointer and for the life of me i cannot figure out how it goes on.

Can anyone help me with these issues?

If so, I would greatly appreciate it.
