The 7.5's are stronger than most think, and should handle 275 horsepower as long as you don't bolt on a pair of real sticky tires or slicks. Although I swaped in an 8.8 about a year ago, I put a set of 3.45 gears in my 7.5 and ran it for years. It's still in one piece out in the garage. You can also bolt a girdle on to the 7.5 and strengthen it's weakest part...the bearing caps.
