![]() Well it was just a guess at what might happen if WWIII were to develop. If it does regardless of what happens, the middle east is where its going to be at 5.0 As for a massive retributive strike. I'm against that. I realize that we are the target of alot of hate, but indiscriminate killling just to show the world how tuff the US can be will change us from victim to bad guy. The eyes of the world aren't on us because of percieved weakness, they're looking at how were going to handle the situation. We mobilize and start dropping some eggs on our percieved enemies without just cause and the American way will just stand for so much BS to everybody else. We go in, investigate amd determine who is responsible then say "look, we found the people responsible for the terriorist act. turn them over. If you don't then we'll have to consider this a state sanctrioned act and declare you an enemy of the US and act accordingly." We might be the only megapower in the world, that doesn't give us liscence to be bullies or to throw our weight around. Thats little better than the jerks who commited the terrorist acts and in the end just keeps the circle of violence running. And to think that smashing a whole region of people back into the stoneages will prevent this from ever happening again is pure fanatasy. If any thing it will create and promote further opertunity for terrorism. After whatever retributive measures are taken, the US needs to look at how we defend against this kind of thing and strengthen the net so we can stop the people before they have a chance to act. being American and living in one of the best democracies in the world is a big responsibility for us and our leaders. It does by nesscity place us at risk and makes things difficult from time to time and unfortunately people are going to pay a high price for what we stand for and what we do when are agenda comes into conflict with another. The easy thing would be to shut the world out, lash out in an attempt to generate so much fear that nobody would ever think about doing this again, and deport or eliminate anybody who fits the profile, but again thats pretty much what these dinks did to us. The trade off isn't worth it. Look at the former USSR and even the bulk of the middleast. The former didn't stand the test of time and the latter has no chance of becoming anything more than they are now, a splintered mess unable to actively coperate as a cohesive whole. As an aside not every person over there is a homicidal maniac. I do have a friend that is an arab and a palastinian to boot. he's been in the US for a good 20 or 30 years and is one of the better people I know and watching TV and reading the paper I am kinda concerend for his well being. The day of the attack a few of my co workers expressed their need to find some "rag heads" and take revenge for what happened. IMO this makes my friend a target for something he wasn't even party to and the possible subject of perscecution simply because of who and what he is. |
