It definately won't hurt.

If you've got the cash for the MAF and still can't afford heads or other larger mods, I'd say go for it. When the bottom line is reached, you still need the same combination of parts. What matter your pursue that combination in is up to you. You can scimp and save to get the shortblock and then add the supporting componets as you can afford them (that's kinda what I did). Or, you can get parts as you feel you can afford them and have the combo ready to go when you can afford to finally do the short block.

Really doesn't make much difference other than 1BAD and the others are right that it's not going to make much difference in power right now.

Of course, if you don't do anything and opt to save money, that won't make any difference in power, either, right?
