Unhappy popping noise

There's a "popping" noise coming from the left rear of my 97 GT. First I found the shock was leaking and replaced it as well as the spring rubber. I thought that would fix it but unfortunately not. I looked at it again and again and can't see anything physically wrong. It only happens when you first move the car forward or in reverse. It's driving me crazy- any thoughts would help!!!!
