if it was my car i would try 5000-5300 and see what happens....but you said that it had 140000+ miles on it, if you drive the car everyday and have no other means of tranportation i would just try launching at a lower rpm, but if this is your weekend driver (aka race car) step it up a notch a try 4000-4500-5000-5500.......just keep trying and find that happy median between hooking and spinning

or instead of side stepping the clutch..try to let it slip a TINY bit, that way it will take away some of the shock and maybe it wont bog so bad.
