![]() Well I admit I've been lazy at posting, I don't think I've posted any of my races yet this year (I'm about 50/50 now, most of my losses are stoplight races that I burn the tires for the first 60 mph and run out of room to run them down).
Anyways, I was out on Saturday night cruising down a local strip, and pulled up to a light against a nice new yellow GT. Looked over to the side, nodded, and knew it was on. The opposite light turns yellow and I get ready to give buddy a blast of tire smoke and hopefully hang with him for a ways. The green light drops and I roll into the throttle and SIDEWAYS just about instantly. I hit 2nd, ease off, and then roll back into it, and go sideways again banging the 6000 limiter on the Crane ignition, and the Magnaflows are ROARING! At this point there are parked cars on the right ahead and I'm hanging halfway into that lane so I decided to shut down. GT 1, LX 0 ![]() Anyways, we continue along and pull up to another light and chat...blah blah, what's a 5.4? Stuff like that. (I have 5.4 badges on the side of my car to let the losers know what lurks beneath). Light turns green again and I'm not willing to suffer defeat so I ease away, and the other guy wasn't racing either. We cruise for another couple blocks and the road widens out and speed limit increase, he drops a gear beside me and gets a 2-3 car length jump (I knew he needed it so no panic). I downshift to 2nd in the meat of the powerband around 40 mph and drill it. Top of 2nd gear I'm right beside him, and I powershift 3rd and spin a bit, giving him a nice shot of exhaust. Wind out 3rd gear and hit 4th and he's already 3-4 car lengths back, and I wind out 4th until around 110 and I can barely see his headlights anymore ![]() Revenge was very sweet. My car went 13.4 on the bald tires before I did my Magnaflows, in the heart of July's heat, humidity, and we're at about 2400' altitude here too. For reference, most LS1 Camaros/Firebirds go 13.8-14.0 at around 100 mph here, and a headers/CAI/drag radial auto C5 Vette went 13.2 @ 106. Same night also a ZO6 went 13.2 @ 107, although I admit the guy probably wasn't the greatest driver. I suspect I'll be close to the 12's with the new exhaust now, it makes a lot more torque and pulls a lot harder in the 5300+ rev range. I have one more track day on the 5th of October to find out (with a lot COOLER air)! Jonathan Last edited by jonnyk; 09-15-2003 at 07:37 PM.. |
