No more FRPP A-6250-A351 camshaft?
A long time ago I planned a cam upgrade since I need to replace a failed lifter. I planned to go with a FRPP A6250-A351 camshaft but now that I'm actually getting around to doing the project and ordering the parts, the cam is no longer available from what I've found on the internet.
So, here's what I have: Car Weight: ~3300 lbs Elevation: ~2000 ft Engine: -1971 351 Windsor block, (4.00 bore) -Stock bottom end, (3.50 stroke) -Trick Flow Twisted Wedge aluminum heads (2.02/1.60 valves, 61cc combustion chamber volume, 170cc/66cc intake/exhaust port volume, straight out of the box) -Trick Flow 1.6:1 roller rockers -Edelbrock Performer RPM intake (dual plane, high-rise) -Edelbrock Performer RPM 224°/234° duration camshaft, .496/.520 lift -Holley 110 gph mechanical fuel pump -Moroso air cleaner (round, 14x3) -MSD 6AL ignition box -MSD Street Pro-Billet Distributor -MSD Blaster 2 Coil -MSD Heli-Core 8mm Plug Wires -Hedman full-length headers (1-5/8" primaries) -180° thermostat -17 low-profile flex fan -No power steering -No power brakes Carburetor: -Holley #3310-2 750 cfm Vacuum Secondary -#68 Primary Jets -#21 Secondary Metering Plate (equal to #74 jets) -6.5" Power Valve -#110 High Flow Needle & Seats (Primary & Secondary) -50cc Accelerator Pump -#31 Squirter -Yellow Vacuum Secondary Spring Transmission: -C4 3-speed automatic (2.46, 1.46, 1.00 ratios) -Heavy duty rebuild -TCI Streetfighter Stall converter (~3000 rpm) -B&M Street/Strip Stage 2 Shift Kit Rear End: -Currie-built 9 -3.70:1 gear ratio -31 spline heavy duty axles/housings -Traction-Lock I don't want anything tooooo radical because I do still drive it on the street quite a bit, but I think there is some lost potential with my engine due to the cam. However, I don't want to wrap this thing up too high because the bottom end is stock. It has been rebuilt (it was a bone stock 2 bbl), but I don't know by whom or exactly when so I'm not terribly confident in it. Anyway, I have my 6AL rev limiter set at 6k revs right now and I'd prefer to leave it there...I think the next jump up is 7k. I plan on sticking with a hydraulic flat tappet. What are some good/popular options out there that would fit my needs and be a worthy improvement over the Edelbrock Performer RPM? Or should I just stick with the Edelbrock and just replace the lifters? I know I need to up the compression to make substantially more power, but for now I'd like to push out some extra power for drag racing if possible. Also, I would prefer not to spend major amounts of cash on some crazy custom cam or anything. I'm just looking for an out of the box cam that would be better than the Performer RPM. Thanks in advance...sorry for the rambling. Last edited by 6T9PONY; 01-25-2011 at 11:46 PM.. |
