Using a Glide on the car is good if you don't mind a really high (and thus not very streetable) rear gear and stall converter. Plus, you are going to have to strip your car down to less than 3,000lbs. Everyone I have ever talked with on the powerglide subject says that if the car will weigh more than 3,000lbs, then the glide isn't for it.

I'm doing a 460/514 project in my spare time that's going to take me about 7 years (already been 3). Because I want this to be a street car 1st and a track car a distant 2nd, I am going to go with a TH400 (not a ford tranny).

It is lighter than a C6 and has less internal rotating mass so it won't soak up as much power as a C6. It'll hold the horses though if built right. With a 3 speed, I will be able to run a lower (numerially) rear gear and not such a high stall (perhaps 3,000-3,500 which is still streetable). I think my car will weigh in right at 3,000lbs. or so. It's a 90 coupe.

If you do the 460, do it right. Otherwise it's not worth it. Doing it right means getting at least 500hp on the motor if it's a 460 and 600 if you go 514 or similar stroker. This is just my opinion. Too many big-blocks are all bark and no bite. It's not worth the conversion unless the car ends up having some bite in my opinion.

good luck...

Oh yeah...whatever you do...do NOT buy the crate 514 w/ the football rods. It makes 600hp, yes, but the rods are very, very prone to breaking. Someone I know broke a few rods after only 34 passes on the motor.
