![]() Yep, you are right about the overdrive gear ring. It looks like a piece of metal with a tab on the edge of it. Its on the end of the overdrive gear assembly. Not on the tailshaft but the gear with the synchro. The metal tab has to line up with the cutout area on the tailshaft housing. Im pretty sure the tab has to be straight up when installing the housing but look at the housing to see where the cutout is just to be sure.
