Well, I too have an auto 2000 GT. I happen to have a cobra as well, it's a 94, though, so it's not as potent as the 96-98engines. I can say this: I get way more looks from girls when Im driving the Black GT. I seem to get more teenage, and young males gawking at the red cobra, though. Maybe it's because most girls dont really know what a cobra is....i dont know.
If I were in your shoes, and could sell the GT to get a mod cobra, without losing any money, i'd do it. You slap some gears, exhaust, and some sticky tires on the cobra, and you could dip into the 12's. Good luck.
