First, never exceed .95vdc for your TPS. I'm tired of explaining it, so you're just going to have to trust me.
It's not worth $50 to p/p stock heads, so, if it costs you less than that, or if the experience is worth more than that to you, then go for it. I always encourage anyone who wants to learn hands on, but don't expect any power increase. As far as a diesel VW goes, that was the worst job I ever had, and I won't do it again. Many years ago when I was still pretty wet behind the ears, a friends girlfriend talked me into replacing the head gasket on her diesel Rabbit. That car was possessed by the devil himself. The word "nightmare' doesn't even begin to do it justice. I'd rather do 5 turbo Volvos than 1 diesel Rabbit. I really wish you hadn't mentioned it. I'm developing a twitch already. Take care, -Chris
