It's funny that you say that because i had a bad balancer and a valvetrain ticking or tapping noise. And it sounded like it was from only one side. I've replaced the balancer but the ticking noise remained and had gotten worse. I've seemed to eleviated some of the noise by replacing the lifters on the one side but i still have the noise, just not as loud. In my case i think it was both sides.
