I think a one-piece input shaft requires a non-lockup converter. The factory converter locks up using the extra input shaft. So no extra input shaft, no lock-up.
Advantages- its stronger, and you still have torque multiplication in 3rd and 4th gears. The factory AOD locks up in 3rd and 4th and kinda falls flat on its face when it does it. Disadvantages - slightly worse gas mileage and higher cruising RPM. Theres also a school of thought that a lock up converter can give you a higher trap speed, but I dont really know much about it. I think that might help in higher horsepower applications. |
