![]() Generally speaking, advancing the valve timing (cam) brings the powerband into full effect at a lower rpm, and retarding the valve timing raises the rpms at which the powerband will peak.
The best way to find your optimum valve timing is to install a compression gauge in one of the cylinders after bolting down the timing chain, and crank the engine over 6 or 7 times, and write down the compression. Next, back off the cam gear, and change the valve timing, then check the compression again. Keep doing this until you reach the highest compression level, and this will be the best spot for your cam. Don't forget, just like any other time you do a compression test, to block the throttle open. Take care, -Chris
