Back in the dark ages, these same problems existed. To get my undergraduate degree, a BS in biology, I had to complete a 5 hour calculous course. It was a *****, and was one of the few C's that I ended up with in college. It took a lot of effort to get the C (that, I hate to admit).

In dental school, neuro anatomy, again ate my lunch. It too took a great deal of effort to get a C. I did have to pass the course to complete the degree. I did complete both of these courses with lack-luster performance, but still ended up in the top quarter of my class in each situation.

I guess the point of this long diatribe is that nobody excells in every aspect of a given academic pursuit. You can excell in the end result.
