Does anyone know if exhaust dumps are street legal? I live in Pa. and I think the rule is that all exhaust must exit to the outside of the car to pass inspection.

Yeah, in Minnesota all exhaust must exit the vehicle, but I have them anyway.

How do you pass inspection with them? What is the purpose of dumps anyway? Why not just get the tailpipes?

Most states don't allow them due to the possibility of exhaust fumes entering the cab of the car. I think some people just like how they sound.

I was wondering about this a while back, and got many conflicting views, but the local mustang club's president, who is a cop, said that they are legal in VA.

I'm seriously thinking of putting dumps on my car and luckily since I live in Michigan(with no emissions testing) all I have to worry about is them being too loud.

82GT - dumps are cheap and save some weight due to the fact that you don't have tailpipes, and they also have slightly less backpressure than a full catback (every inch of pipe and more significantly every bend adds back pressure).

Dumps also give the car a deeper sound. It is totally different from tailpipes. I took mine off just because I wanted a change and didn't have alot of money at the time. I'm about ready for a change again so I'm gonna put them back on. We have no emission laws in my county now, so that's when I took them off. We had to have them when we had emissions laws though. I think it's just so those lazy people that work there don't have to crawl around on the ground.
