93 Probe GT how fast?

I'm kinda wondering how one measues the spotted car lengths and exactly how many ft. a car length is? 15 ft, 17 ft, or what? 25 carlengths seems like it would be at least 375 ft. At street races at night, does one get out his 50 ft tape and do it 7.5 times end to end or what? Maybe a guy needs to keep one of those measuring devices with the wheel that one roles to measure distances in the trunk of the car for when the need arises. I can just picture this scenario at the street races trying to set this up.
