Well, I'm just going by the pictures. If they feel smooth to you, than just leave them. It's your call.

As far as the metallic taste, maybe it has something to do with being a smoker? I don't know, but any time I do ANY metal grinding, either with air tools, a Dremel , or a bench grinder, I get a very fine, metallic taste that lasts for hours. You didn't hold your breath, did you?
