Yes Boss.
Sheldon- Look on the block right above where the starter goes, and you should see a yitload of numbers. Write them all down and post them. Also, look for a 3 or 4 digit code that will have a single number, a single letter, and then either one or two more numbers (like this: 5A26, or 6K3, etc.). It may be in the middle of the lifter valley. Anyway, write everything down, and post it. Take care, ~Chris

I don't know for sure, because i can't find it, but I'm guessing it's a 351M or a 400. The casting number you did leave tells me it's a design that changed in 1977, and that it was originally a truck engine. The 302's and 351W's didn't undergo any major revisions in '77, but that's right around the time the 351M & 400 were busy.
You need to look at the front of the engine, where the timing chain goes. Cleveland engines have a cast into the block chamber for the chain and gears to sit in, whereas the Windsors have a timing chain cover. See if you can tell which one you have. Take care, ~Chris

casting numbers
The casting numbers on the right side of the block above the starter are D7T3A38 I don't think it's a 351C engine my guess is a 351M or 400M I do know it's not a W because the timing gear housing is cast to the block. The trouble I was having was finding a flywheel to fit the one I was given for it. It is from a 300 six cylinder and I don't think the balance is right on it but the bellhousing puts the stock starter too far away from the teeth in the flywheel the spin the engine. The bellhousing is supposed to be for a 400M but what year I don't know. the engine was out of the truck when I bought it and it had a bad C-6 in it. By the way the truck is a 79 F-150 4WD and it was only a $100 and is in really good shape just needs some paint and int. work so it will be worth the headace when done. thanks for the help!!

Okay, first off, just so that you know, the 351C, 351M, and 400 are all Cleveland engines. The M in 351M stands for Modified, because they took a Cleveland 400 block, and modified it with a 351W crank, and came up with another 351 engine. They did this because demand was too high for that size engine after they stopped production on the 351C.
You need to find a flywheel for a 400 engine. You can't use the one from the 300. Take care, ~Chris
