Okay, now that have a firm grip on Rule Number One (never stand in front of a car when it's started), try and remember Rule Number Two as well; Never stand in line with the fan when the engine is started, either.
I've seen several guys break legs getting hit by a car with the neutral safety switch removed (who's ever going to need it, right?), and one guy that lost an ear when a fan came loose because someone forgot to tighten the 4 10mm bolts on the pump. I'm glad you're okay, but I want you to stay okay! Regardless of the type of person or the type of car, never stand in front when someone has their hand on the key, even if they're "just bumping it".
