When I took my engines class at the local cc in 1986, they showed us the paperwork for buying a bare-bones, no-frills '86 Camaro. Brand new, with warranty, it was around $8000. Then we got the parts list of every part it would take for you to build the car yourself, and their prices. The total was close to $30k, and that didn't include the frame, any labor, or any warranty.
You don't pay $20k+ for the hood when buying the car, but a replacement hood could be that much. Take care, ÅChris
