Question How to pass emissions with X cam

What can I do to pass emissions with an X cam? Will putting alchohol in my tank hurt anything. What else could I do?

Go take the emissions test and worry about it if you fail. If you fail, what you fail will give a better idea what you need to do to fix it.

Ya, go take the test and see what happens. I would say just pull an injector, thats the easiest way to pass.

Cool

My first inspection after my E cam install....I blew a 2035. Only about 1700 over the legal limit. You've got no choice. Or, do like I did, and move to a county that has no emissions !

Question

bada$$lx, why did you fail with an "E" cam? I thought those were supposed to be Ford's high performance, emissions legal cam?

bada$$lx - Did you have cats when you took the test? You're garunteed to fail without them.

I'm not sure why there is so much concern over passing emissions testing. I am in Harris County Texas (Houston), which has fairly strict sniffer tests, and I have passed emissions for years here with no problem. My previous car was a 91' LX Coupe with Edelbrock heads, GT-40 U/L, BBK 70mm TB, PRO-M 75mm MAF, and E-303 with shorty headers, BBK 2.5" H-pipe WITH catalytic converters, and Flow Master cat-back. Absolutely no problems passing emissions with 40 psi fuel pressure, 24 PPH injectors, and 14 degrees timing.

Current car passed with 106,000 mile motor with TFS-TW heads, Edelbrock Peformer U/L, 30# injectors, 65mm TB, PRO-M 80mm, and a custom grind Cam Motions "Solid Roller" cam with .561" lift int/exh, 230/236 duration @ .050" lift. This was with 42 psi fuel pressure, 15 degrees timing with FRPP shorty headers and Bassani X-pipe WITH catalytic converters, and Bassani cat-back. It passed in December 2000 with new Keith Craft 306, heads milled to bring up the CR to about 10.25:1, and CompCams XE274 with .555/.565" lift. It was so clean the guy thought his equipment was not hooked up properly so they ran the test again...same low numbers. They couldn't believe it! If you have the car in a good state of tune, good sensors, and run good set of cats...you should not have any problem at all passing even with the X-303.

As a side note, mine MAY run cleaner with the MSD-6AL also, but I cannot prove this. If the stock ignition system is in good shape, it should be fine on emissions testing also.

Hope this helps as far as what mods I had and how well I passed. I know other guys in the area also running real healthy 5.0's with more static CR and they too pass with no problems. Good luck...

You guys can see what I have from my sig and I pass just fine (better than my wife's V6 Prope). I have no idea why bada$$lx would fail with e-303.

Back to mustangLX92's problem. Forget pulling an injector. Just go take the test and see if you pass or fail. It's not like they'll wisk you off to jail or something if you fail. Just make sure you're running with 10 degrees timing and 87 octane. I hope you have cats and a working air pump, too.

If you do fail, you're in a better position as to what to do about it.

were i live the emissions test is performed under load on a dyno.i have the holley systemaxII kit and the cam is not emissions legal, however i passed the test well under the allowable limits. i have bbk full length headers and hi-flow cats. take the test and see if you pass,i think theres a good chance it will.

Are ethanol blended fuels available in the states? Down in Vancouver I've seen some pretty sick combinations pass the aircare test with a 10% ethanol blended 94 octane with plenty of room to spare.
