Try replacing the serpentine belt; it may be loose or slipping a bit and when the A/C compressor kicks on, the slack is abruptly taken up and you get the jerking and/or shaking. Worth a try and won't do any harm.

If that isn't the problem, it could be in the compressor itself, but do the easy stuff first.
