1) Yes it CAN be done with a line converter, you should be able to tap into the lines near the speakers.
2) I would highly suggest upgrading the rest of your system first. I nice aftermarket HU would be great and greatly increase the sound quality of your sterio system. Replacing the door speakers with aftermarket units would also add a great deal of sound quality. At a minimum I would suggest replacing the stock head unit with a aftermarket CD player before adding subs. -Josh, aka the tireburner
