![]() 1st thing have your buddy turn the key to the cranking positition and check the small wire at the solenoid for power. If you have power there it is either solenoid or starter. You can jump from the cable to the post and see if the starter turns over. If you have no power there you either have ignition switch or saftey switch problem. I don't have access to a manual at the moment (Iloaned it out) for the color wires but both can be be checked with test light or preferably a digital volt meter. The safety switch will have power with key on and in park or neutral. A lot of 87s have ig switch problems. Hope this gets you started
