And I quote USAA's auto insurance web site!
Q. Does my insurance cover me if I drive someone else’s vehicle? A. Yes, in most cases your insurance will cover you if the insurance on the vehicle is adequate. But there are some exceptions. Q. Am I covered if I rent a vehicle? Do I need to buy the insurance the rental company sells? A. Again, it’s a good idea to talk this over with your insurance company and the rental company before you make a decision. The answer varies from state to state and the laws regulating rental car insurance change frequently. In general, if you rent a vehicle for a two-week vacation, your own insurance will cover you in that vehicle just as it would cover you in your own vehicle. Collision Coverage: Collision Damage to your vehicle or a vehicle you are operating caused by a collision or rollover.
