Yeah getting rid of the slicks will definately help. I had a 78 Mustang II back in the day and had 15x3.5 centerlines on the fron t and I think I ran 175/70 dunlops that were for VW. The thing about those was that they 6 ply. But cornering and braking were still a little touchy and the car only weighed 2900 with my big self in it, they were light cars. I'd at least recomend going to 5 or 6 in wide rim that way you could at 195/70 or even 205/70 with 6in
